Studies & consultancy

EUROTRANS Consultants have experts with strong experience in engineering and networks and services managements in waterborne and rail transports. Their commitment in European research, in industry market research, in relevant catchment areas studies, allowed them to provide their clients with relevant and reliable operation methodologies in order to meet the requirements of major infrastructures pre-engineering studies, such as waterborne canals (Seine-Nord Europe, Saône-Rhin), railway services or multimodal platforms (Delta3). This expertise is essential for networks development prospective studies, business plans drawings for new transport services, inland ports and rail-road terminals. As a logistics consultancy company for massive flows shippers (agriculture, industry, minerals, retail), EUROTRANS Consultants are able to assess precisely the relevance of a modal shift towards sustainable transport means.

EUROTRANS Consultants work on the basis of experienced methodologies for the evaluation of local socio economic or environmental transport infrastructures impacts, and are also involved in academic research on these topics (Predit, Grenelle de l’Environnement…). Their knowledge of multimodal transport allows them to realize audits and propose relevant recommendations for optimizing the management of specialized transport equipment (for instance railyards). Their business plans are used as references during the negotiations of new public services subcontracting for ports, inland ports and combined transport terminals (Bayonne Mouguerre…). The economic market studies and feasibility studies, provided for more than 25 ports, terminals, network services, have led to sustainable developments and are consolidating a recognized know-how in major transport infrastructures pre-engineering studies.

Waterway transport

Major waterway transport issues are related with the requisite development of European waterways network, modal shift, inland ports development, and the offer of road complementary services for industry and territories. Waterway transport is a flexible, reliable and cheap transport mode. It fits particularly well with heavy goods and manufactured products massive flows. Aggregates or agricultural productions are stimulated by waterways. Shippers like Carrières du Boulonnais, In Vivo, Noriap, asked our company to realize audits to improve their utilisation of waterway transport. In this framework, we are dealing with market studies, and regulation, technical, and financial feasibility studies. We carry out a decision support work in order to set up new equipment financing shared projects. For the public sector, we regularly deal with studies and consultancy including potential evaluation, investment feasibility, design and building follow-up for inland ports like Harnes, Nogent sur Seine, and Longueil Sainte Marie.

Rail & combined transport

Rail:

Rail is an efficient transport mode both on economical and environmental levels. Its using, its development request foresight and planning. The objective is to build an efficient door-to-door service most often combining rail and road and handling and transport modern systems. Long trains (over 750 m) flows massification and balance shall rely on large spectrum studies with the objective of transports mutualization. For answering public sector commitment, we formalize railyard design and management « business models », that we propose to the private sector in the framework of public services subcontractings or land authorizations.

Combined transport:

Combined transport is an efficient response for manufactured goods transportation. Inland navigation combined transport services are able to reach every port terminal and large city centres as well. This is why their market share is growing for inland port distribution in North West Europe. These services contribute to reducing motorways’ and ports congestions. Piggyback and rolling motorway services are also relevant with complementary with ferries, as can be seen in Calais or between Luxemburg and Catalonia. Our consultants are also involved in new combined transport terminals design, with railyard dynamic management (Delta3, CFL…)

Platforms

Thanks to the wide preliminary researches launched as from 1990 on the development of European distribution centres, in cooperation with European Union (DG Regio), University (Lille 1), Predit (Ministère des Transports), and the EUROTRANS Partners netwok in Benelux, EUROTRANS has an advantage for detecting and designing relevant multimodal inland port organization. Close to the Le Havre – Hamburg maritime ports, EUROTRANS benefits from latest worldwide innovations in the « European Distribution Centres ». EUROTRANS Consultants are involved in every step of a multimodal platform, from the opportunity study to the realization then in the development phase.

Multimodal transport regular services are essential components of platforms, whom results are based on jobs and modal shift with logistics providers warehouses implementations. The choice of relevant project management and financing plan shall rely on proven techniques and on important expertise in order to get the best value for the public-private partnerships to be set up. Economical, social, and environmental valorisation of communication nodes is a complex challenge, where it is relevant to be accompanied by experts in change management for public bodies and transport operators.
